Dr Yemisi Akinbobola

Dr. Yemisi Akinbobola is a distinguished journalist, academic, and consultant, renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to media and gender issues. As the co-founder of African Women in Media (AWiM), an influential international non-profit, she is dedicated to transforming the media landscape for African women. Yemisi's exemplary work has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious CNN African Journalist Award for Sports Reporting in 2016.
From 2010 to 2014, she spearheaded IQ4News, an innovative news platform. Currently, Yemisi is a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University, where she obtained her PhD in Media and Cultural Studies. Her scholarly pursuits have led to significant publications on women's rights, African feminism, and the digital public sphere.
Yemisi's expertise extends to her role as Editorial Consultant for the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 commemorative book, "She Stands for Peace: 20 Years, 20 Journeys," and she also hosts the accompanying podcast. Recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential African Women in 2021, she is a sought-after speaker on gender and media issues, continuously advocating for positive change
